The Adirondacks may be a natural draw for environmentally conscious travelers, but gaps in electric vehicle charging infrastructure are holding the region back from a growing market.

Availability and reliability of chargers are  issues that need to be addressed to improve the experience for people—particularly visitors—driving electric vehicles in the Adirondacks, according to a virtual EV panel hosted Thursday, Nov. 13 by the Adirondack Explorer.

Panelists also discussed the need for additional education on the topic for both potential drivers, businesses and communities.

The discussion included four panelists who regularly drive EVs: Jim McKenna, retired CEO of Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST); Christine Pouch, marketing director for Indian Lake; Nancy Bernstein, energy circuit rider for Adirondack North Country Association; and Pete Nelson, who has worked on various related initiatives at the town and state levels.
