Market Support

As the host organization for the High Peaks Farmers’ Market in Saranac Lake and Lake Placid, ANCA strives to support North Country farms and small businesses, increase local food access and cultivate welcoming experiences for residents and visitors. ANCA also is working with partners to expand and develop regional markets for local producers.

Market to Meals

In Summer 2026, ANCA’s Local Food System Program and the High Peaks Farmers Market has launched a new program that connects surplus farmers’ market produce with a local kitchen that serves free community meals to Saranac Lake area residents.

This innovative program — made possible with grant support from the Glenn & Carol Pearsall Adirondack Foundation — supports local farms, reduces food waste, and increases access to fresh, healthy food among food-insecure households.

Why it matters:

  • • Reduce the amount of surplus market food wasted
  • • Support local growers
  • • Expand benefits of local food to more community members
  • • Provide fresh, healthy food to community meals program at no cost

How it works:

  • • 100% of all donations go to vendors and/or community members.
  • • We purchase excess produce at the end of each market from participating vendors.
  • • Produce is delivered to local community kitchens.
  • • The chef uses produce to prepare free weekly community meals.
  • • Food items not used in meal preparation are offered to community meal participants.

This pilot program is supported by a generous grant from the Glenn & Carol Pearsall Adirondack Foundation.
