Clean Energy Hub Partners with Lake Placid Municipal Electric to Offer Insulation Rebates
Rebates Available for Municipal Electric Customers to Make their Homes More Energy Efficient

Lake Placid, N.Y. — Lake Placid area residents looking to reduce energy costs and increase energy efficiency in their homes may be eligible for an insulation rebate program. The North Country Clean Energy Hub is partnering with Lake Placid Municipal Electric and The Independent Energy Efficiency Program (IEEP) to promote the Residential Electric Insulation Program, which is now open to all Lake Placid Municipal Electric customers.

With energy costs on the rise across the region, the rebate program will help offset costs by offering home weatherization upgrades that can significantly reduce heating and cooling expenses. Eligible weatherization measures include insulation of attics, exterior walls, rim joists, ducts, and basement crawl spaces, as well as air sealing, weatherstripping, and ventilation.

“As a resident of Lake Placid, I also experienced high energy bills this past winter, which is why I am invested in helping alleviate that burden for my community. By connecting residents to the IEEP residential insulation rebate program, we can help people feel more comfortable in their homes and keep money in their pockets during peak periods in the winter,” said Bella Abbadessa, North Country Clean Energy Hub Program Coordinator with the Adirondack North Country Association (ANCA).

All Lake Placid Municipal Electric residential customers are eligible for one incentive payment up to 75% of the cost of the installation expense incurred annually, with a maximum IEEP incentive of $5,000. Low-income qualifying residents may receive up to 100% of the cost of installation expenses incurredannually. Like with any rebate, this program does require payment up front. However, for qualifying low-income residents, the IEEP pays the contractor directly for the work completed.

“We believe that energy solutions start by empowering our residents. The process to participate is simple,” said Kimball Daby, Lake Placid Municipal Electric Superintendent.

Daby said residents work directly with a contractor to identify which eligible measures are right for their homes and then submit the rebate form to the IEEP for pre-approval, including a copy of their electric bill and a scope of work from the contractor. He noted, once the IEEP returns a pre-approval authorization, families can move forward with improvements that strengthen both their homes and our community. After work has been completed, the resident resubmits their rebate form along with the IEEP pre-approval number, proof of payment, and a copy of their Lake Placid Municipal Electric bill to receive their incentive payment.

“It’s a pretty straightforward process, but Lake Placid Municipal Electric and Hub staff are happy to help if residents have any questions,” Daby said.

To further streamline the process, the North Country Clean Energy Hub will offer no-cost assistance to residents to get them started and connect them with a contractor to assess their home’s energy needs and appropriate upgrades. For more information, Lake Placid residents can reach out to Hub Program Coordinator Bella Abbadessa at [email protected] or 518-891-6200 ext. 122.

The IEEP also offers numerous other rebate incentives available to Lake Placid Municipal Electric Residents. Rebates are available for many different upgrades, such as home appliances, battery-powered lawn care, heat pumps, and insulation. Information on available rebates and rebate forms are available on Lake Placid Municipal Electric’s website: northelba.villageoflakeplacid.ny.gov/departments/public_works/utilities.php

The Residential Insulation Electric Rebate Program is also available for municipal electric customers located in Tupper Lake and Plattsburgh. Residents in those communities may contact Abbadessa for more information about rebates and support from the Hub.
