Stephen M. Erman, ANCA president

Steve Erman has been closely involved with the Adirondack North Country Association since joining the NYS Adirondack Park Agency’s staff as economic advisor in 1982.  ANCA was recognized as an important and respected agent for improving the region’s economy and there were many opportunities over the years for collaboration and close partnership between ANCA and the State of New York.

Erman joined the ANCA Board of Directors in 1989.  Just prior to becoming President of the Board in June 2010, Erman served as ANCA’s Vice President for the Northern Region.  He retired from State service in August 2010.
Before moving to the Adirondack North Country, Erman was a management consultant based in Washington, D.C who focused on industrial and commercial market research, strategic planning for  community revitalization, and organizational development.   His consulting experience with Booz, Allen and Hamilton on defense plant and military base closures led to a six month assignment by Governor Mario Cuomo in 1994 as interim executive director of the Plattsburgh Inter-municipal Development Council, the group planning the civilian reuse of Plattsburgh Air Force Base.
Raised in New York’s Hudson Valley, Erman received a B.A. in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Public Administration (MPA) from the State University of New York at Albany.   He and his wife, Margot Gold, reside in Saranac Lake.  They have two children, Molly, a 2007 graduate of Indiana University who now works in publishing in New York City, and Sam, a 2011 graduate of the University of Oregon who works in salmon habitat restoration with AmeriCorps in the State of Washington.
