Advocating for the Region

Some examples of recent issues ANCA has been involved with:

Universal Broadband

ANCA advocates for widespread and affordable broadband, a key to economic development in the region. In 2011, ANCA helped coordinate the Wireless Clearinghouse Project, which involved creation of an interactive, web-based map of 1,500 existing structures in Adirondack Park towns that are suitable for housing a wireless antenna. The goal is to help facilitate the expansion of wireless telecommunications systems in the Adirondack Park.

Tug Hill

ANCA  spearheaded a petition to Governor Andrew Cuomo and Lt. Governor Robert Duffy calling on them to reinstate the Tug Hill Commission, after it was taken out of the 2011 budget.

Croghan Dam

Issues of aging infrastructure and how small communities can remain economically viable are coming to a head in Lewis County. As the Village of Croghan struggles to preserve its historic dam and mill from being dismantled by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, ANCA joined an effort to call for more time to look for ways to rehabilitate the structure.

Rail Corridor

In spite of its current state of not being fully utilized, the Remsen-Lake Placid Rail Corridor remains important to New York’s infrastructure. The next step that demands our attention is what needs to be done to rehabilitate the railway.
