Adirondack Club and Resort Project

by Terry Martino
ANCA’s Board of Directors responded to the Adirondack Club and Resort Project and forwarded correspondence to the Adirondack Park Agency by the January 19, 2007 deadline date for public commentary. In the correspondence, ANCA stated, "It is our hope that the Agency will continue to conduct a thorough review of the project to ensure that the environmental, economic and community impacts and potential of the project are clearly presented." Additionally the correspondence noted, "We believe the project represents a significant opportunity for Tupper Lake residents and businesses." ANCA staff also prepared a corresponding Issue Assessment that provided information on the following: Project Description, Governmental Reviews, Position of Other Organizations, Questions about the Overall Scope and Impact of the Project, Public Meetings—Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake, New York, and ANCA Staff Review.

In the Agency’s Decision Document that Commissioners acted upon in their discussions on the project, it was noted that, "Correspondence was received from the Adirondack North Country Association expressing support for the project if properly developed and identifying a range of issues that they feel require close scrutiny by involved local governments and the Adirondack Park Agency." At the February 9, 2007 Adirondack Park Agency meeting the Commissioners unanimously voted to direct the project to a formal public hearing on specific issues they identified during the course of their deliberations.
