Blueprint for the Blue Line Update January 16, 2008 Dear Common Ground Participants and Colleagues: We are writing to seek your further review, and hopefully your endorsement of the Blueprint for the Blue Line. At the July 18, 2007 forum in Long Lake, nearly one-hundred and fifty people provided additional commentary on the original Blueprint. Additionally, many of you contributed to the ongoing work following the meeting. The goal of the Blueprint is to present a participatory framework to improve the economic viability of our Park communities while conserving our natural environment. After your review, we hope you will continue to participate and will join the thirty-plus organizations that endorsed the original Blueprint in 2006. It has been a busy time since our milestone meeting in Long Lake when we met with many local officials, state and federal representatives, and organizational and business leaders. The Blueprint incorporates the feedback from the July 18th session and includes some new topics—property taxes, health care, and guiding principles—based on your input. The Blueprint offers what we believe can be a unified vision for the future of the Adirondack Park. While we hope to receive your endorsement, we will still consider substantive feedback on any Common Ground issue and solutions for a 2008 update that will be discussed this summer. Please contact us via email at anca@northnet.org with your feedback, questions or endorsement as soon as realistic to do so. We are excited about the collective vision for the Adirondack Park represented by the Blueprint and the Common Ground process. Our combined goal is to continue a unique and ongoing dialogue with our community, business and state agency leaders, municipal officials, the North Country Legislative Delegation, and the Governor’s office. Together we will work for the betterment of our Park communities, economies and environment. The Blueprint is a foundation for further discussion and an avenue to influence public policy and investment in the Adirondack Park. We anticipate future actions and feedback in the coming summer to be followed by a subsequent update. We are delighted Long Lake Supervisor Gregg Wallace will host the Annual Common Ground Alliance Forum on July 16, 2008. Please mark your calendars for this important session and details will follow. Your support, commitment and involvement in the Common Ground process is appreciated and we thank you for your continued engagement. We look forward to working with you in the coming year. Respectfully, Common Ground Alliance Core Team Members Ray Curran, Greg Hill, Brian Houseal, Terry Martino, J.R. Risley, Zoe Smith, Lani Ulrich, Gregg Wallace and Ross Whaley |
