Greenwich Hosts Cross-Border Artisan Exchange Workshop On May 10th Greenwich's busy Main Street will welcome studio and shop owners benefiting from the Adirondack North Country Association’s Marketing Toolkit Workshop critiques and peer exchanges. The owners of the new studio Amy Pollard Photography and new shop Trionda Treasures and of two well-established shops, Over Time Antiques & More and Union Village LTD were invited to be critiqued as part of the workshop on April 6 by workshop partners Nadia Korths, Craft Programs Coordinator/ANCA; Tori Riley, Program Manager/Adirondack Regional Chamber of commerce and Kathy Nichols-Tompkins, office manager/Greenwich Chamber of Commerce. As part of their Craft Retail Theming / Trail Best Practices Mission Tour, nine small artisan businesses from the Atlantic Provinces will be participating in the workshop. Emma Mitchelmore of GNP Crafts, Newfoundland; Carol Harvey-Clark of Spruce Top Rug Hooking Studio, Nova Scotia; Anne Arsenault of Tignish Initiatives, Prince Edward Island; Debra Ginnish of Mikmaq Association for Cultural Studies, Nova Scotia; Tanya Priske of the Center for Women in Business, Nova Scotia; Melody Gay of Tourism PEI, Prince Edward Island; Don Sheehan of Amos Pewterers Limited, Nova Scotia; Michelle Cline of Cadogan Edgewater Gifts and Gallery, New Brunswick; Beulah Michelin of Fundy Guild Inc., New Brunswick and Debbie Gorrill of West Point Lighthouse Craft Shop, Prince Edward Island. The planners for the Atlantic Tour chose the Adirondack North Country Region as a tour location after viewing ANCA’s on-line format of the successful Arts, Crafts and Foods Along the Scenic Byways of the Adirondack North Country posted at AdkNCcrafts.com. They are interested in how travel touring is an important component of craft business development. From May 8th – 12th, The Mission Tour participants will learn about ways to jointly market themselves with other craft businesses as a “craft trail” or by partnering with agri-tourism or culinary businesses to promote a regional tourism trail. On their first day starting from Saranac Lake, they will meet with ANCA staff and the owners of Small Fortune Studio and Adirondackcraft.com, Adirondack Craft Center in Lake Placid and Young’s Gallery in Jay. On the second day they will attend the workshop in Greenwich and then travel back north across the border to meet with participants of the Monteregie Farmers’ Circuit for the next day and a half. Shop and studio owners are invited to register for the May 10, 9am - 12 Noon Marketing Toolkit Workshop to be held at the Greenwich Public Library with Tori Riley, Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce, 518.798.1761 or triley@adirondackchamber.org. The $25 fee ($40 for couples/partners) includes the 45 page Marketing Toolkit for Gift Shop and Studio Owners in Rural Areas. Tourism Atlantic/ACOA’s mandate is to promote economic development in the Atlantic Canada region. Best Practices Missions are learning opportunities that are organized for tourism operators. The Adirondack North Country Association is committed to economically viable communities and a rural quality of life. For more information about ANCA, visit www.adirondack.org.
