Strategic Plan 2006 – 2010

March 23, 2006 — After a year of planning work, the Board of Directors of the Adirondack North Country Association (ANCA) adopted a Strategic Plan 2006 – 2010 at its March 16, 2006 Board of Directors’ meeting. The plan presents regional issues and opportunities and ANCA’s role as an advocate and provider of services and programs. Active throughout the North Country for fifty-two years, the Strategic Planning process reaffirmed ANCA’s commitment “to economically viable communities and an improved rural quality of life.”

The plan identifies a major shift in the Association’s work. Specifically the plan looks beyond the longstanding programming of ANCA in the areas of Agriculture, Tourism, Economic Development, Services and Culture, and Natural Resources. Based on the Strategic PLan ANCA will focus on six broad strategies over the next four years including Enterprise and Economic Development; Quality of Life; Culture and Tourism; Working Landscapes; Capacity Development; and Regions and Subregions.

“Each focus area is a framework through which ANCA can deliver services and programs that meet the needs of residents, businesses and communities,” Ronald Ofner, ANCA President stated. “The Board examined our past contributions to the region, including our management of more than $11M in New York State and federal investments and our partnerships with numerous organizations. We determined that our future course of action will be to address a number of regional issues and opportunities that have direct application to local community planning and an improved economic climate.”

“There are numerous programs where ANCA can and has provided a regional perspective, including the reactivation of the Adirondack Rail Corridor, broadband development, regional tourism planning and marketing, and community development,” Terry Martino, Executive Director stated. “We welcome continued partnerships and plan to be an advocate for the community and economic development needs throughout the Adirondack North Country.”

ANCA’s Board of Directors has representation from throughout the fourteen county region and includes members from the public and private sectors. The adoption of the Strategic Plan followed on a day-long planning session at ANCA’s Annual Meeting in November 2005 in Lake Placid.

In other business, the Board accepted the resignation of Maureen Donovan who had represented the Warren County Economic Development Corporation on the Board. Ms. Donovan resigned her seat and accepted the position as District Director for Congressman John Sweeney.
