Scenic Byway Community Announcements and NewsAdirondack Trail Four County Scenic Byway Marketing Brochure Underway Wednesday, April 23, 2008 Hello all, I am contacting you as the Adirondack North Country Association moves forward with the new brochure for the Adirondack Trail. The project is a direct result of the Corridor Management Plan for the Scenic Byway along Routes 30 and 30/A from Fonda to Malone that many of you helped to draft. Please send information on your community’s special resources and take this opportunity to reach a whole new market of North Country visitors with the new publication which is being made possible with Scenic Byway Program funding. I thank you for your assistance. Sharon O’Brien Scenic Byway Coordinator Dear Adirondack Trail Scenic Byway Stakeholder, The development of a map-brochure visitors guide for the Adirondack Trail Scenic Byway, commissioned by the Adirondack North Country Association (ANCA), has been underway since last fall and has reached the stage where we are now seeking descriptions and images for the resources to be included in the guide. As the Project Designer for this marketing initiative, I am seeking your input to help us prepare a compelling brochure that will help attract new visitors and encourage repeat visitation in Byway communities such as yours. Using the list of resources developed under the Byway’s Corridor Management Plan as a guide, we ask that you submit a description for each resource you feel to be an important part of your town’s heritage and recreational opportunities. If possible, please include a photo image that best represents the resource, and submit additional photos if you have them. Also, it is better to give us more information than we can fit, than to give too little! Space permitting, we will include everything possible to help visitors identify the attractions best suited to their interests and appreciation of your town and area. So by all means, include any information you believe is important to a full appreciation of a resource. Note: Many resources were inventoried during early Byway planning work but ANCA is now taking a more focused review of contributing resources and confirming if new resources need to be added. Below are guidelines for submitting descriptions and images. We ask that you follow them as closely as possible, especially for the photo images, as insufficient information and image quality may preclude our ability to include a resource in the guide. If you need any further details to aid in making your submission, please feel free to email me at kathi@inthewoods.us or call me at 518-523-9375. I’m happy to answer any questions or provide further information. Prior to printing, I will post a final proof of the map-brochure guide to ANCA’s website for your review, and will send you the link for downloading the file. I look forward to receiving your submissions! Responses are due by May 9, 2008. Sincerely, Project Designer Kathi Tevlin In the Woods Design Studio Submission Guidelines For each activity or event, please submit the following information: 1. Title or Name of Activity or Event. Give the name or title of how the activity or event is known to the public. Think historical/cultural/natural/scenic/recreational...... 2. Description. Give a full description, don’t be shy! If we need to, we’ll edit the text. You’ll have an opportunity to review our revisions, in case we cut something that needs to be kept in. 3. Hours of Operation. Give full hours of operation, including seasons, days and hours, where applicable. 4. Location and Directions. Include GPS coordinates, if known. This is becoming a popular way for travelers to find venues, especially if they’re in remote areas. 5. Contact Information. Include web address and email address, if applicable. For each photo, please submit the following information: 1. Photo Filename. Give the name of each photo file so that they may be properly identified on the CD. 2. Photo Title and Caption. Use a descriptive title and/or caption for each photo image submitted. 3. Photo Resolution. Photo files must be at least 1500 pixels wide by 1500 pixels tall. There is no danger of submitting an image file too large—the larger the better! On the other hand, any images less than this may be subject to rejection for inclusion. 4. Photographer. Where known, the full name of the photographer should be given; if not known, identify the photographer as “unknown.” 5. Model Release. If an adult person’s face appears in a photograph, and the detail is such that the person can be identified, whenever possible give us that person’s name. If the person appears as part of a crowd at a public event, it is not necessary to do so. Children will not be identified by name in the brochure, but we do need a parent’s permission to use the image. 6. Date of Photo Image. If known, give the date the photo was taken. Project funding was provided by the New York State Department of Transportation ’s New York State Byways Program through the Federal Highway Administration and Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century.
