Recent Central Adirondack Trail Scenic Byway NewsANCA Awarded Several National Scenic Byway Program Grants April 29, 2008 - The Adirondack North Country Association (ANCA) has received eight marketing grants totaling $320,000 to promote Scenic Byway communities along special touring routes across the North Country region. The series of promotional projects will stimulate tourist visitation to natural, cultural, historical, scenic and recreational resources in towns and villages and increase visitor spending at attractions, events, and businesses throughout the Adirondack North Country region. New Funding Round Local Waterfront Revitalization Program October 17, 2007 - Many communities recommended local projects in the Central Adirondack Trail Corridor Scenic Byway Corridor Monument Plan that may be eligible for funding under this Environmental Protection Program. Announcement - Local Public Information Meeting Nov. 15 in Blue Mountain Lake In order to implement the goals put forth by community leaders in the Central Adirondack Trail Corridor Management Plan the Adirondack North Country Association (ANCA) has been working to strengthen communications with the Region Two office of the NYS Department of Transportation and those stakeholders interested in the future of the corridor in their byway communities. ANCA has received word that a local public information meeting is scheduled to discuss a project proposed for Route 28 in the hamlet of Blue Mountain Lake along the Central Adirondack Trail Scenic Byway in Hamilton County. The Corridor Management Plan stated that as new projects are undertaken along the byway we need to address the safety of all users including vehicle operators, pedestrians, and recreationalists and work to create walkable communities that are accessible and provide easy passage to encourage visitors to spend time in the towns, cities and villages all along the byway. Central Adirondack Trail Community business owners, residents and local government officials and community planners are invited to attend the public information meeting on November 15, 2006 at the Blue Mountain Lake Firehouse from 7:00 to 8:00pm to learn about the NYS Department of Transportation Route 28 Improvement Project in the hamlet of Blue Mountain Lake. Central Adirondack Trail Scenic Byway: Corridor Management/Marketing Plan August 24, 2004 - The Adirondack North Country Association has launched its newest regional project – the creation of a comprehensive plan for the official NYS Central Adirondack Trail Scenic Byway from Rome to Glens Falls that will benefit local communities in Oneida, Herkimer, Hamilton, and Warren Counties. Representatives from sixteen townships and two cities along the 140-mile route will be invited to participate in a series of meetings which will result in a planning document that will be used to stimulate regional and local economic development, promote tourism, and market the region. Preparation of Regional Plan for Central Adirondack Trail Scenic Byway Begins Beginning in the summer of 2004, the Adirondack North Country Association (ANCA) will be meeting with Local Action Committees in towns and villages along the Central Adirondack Trail Scenic Byway to create a Corridor Management/Marketing Plan. ANCA has contracted with the New York State Department of Transportation to work with local governments, business owners, civic groups, agencies and other interested stakeholders in the preparation of a regional plan. The plan will address the future of the travel route from Rome to Glens Falls, which was officially designated as part of the New York State Byway System by the Legislature in 1992. Read more...
