2005 Annual Report
REGIONS AND SUBREGIONS
The Adirondack North Country is a series of subregions (e.g. Adirondack Park, Tug Hill, Lake Champlain and the Lake Champlain Basin, St. Lawrence, Upper Hudson and Mohawk River valleys) and larger regions (e.g. Northern Forest, Great Lakes). ANCA works to collaborate both within the region and to a limited extent beyond the region to increase ANCA's success and to leverage additional resources for our economy and people. Highlights of ANCA's 2005 work are as follows:
- Terry Martino, ANCA Executive Director, worked as a New York representative to the Steering Committee to address the work of the Northern Forest Lands Council in preparation for the Lands Council release of the Northern Forest Lands Council 10th Anniversary Forum Final Report in the summer of 2005.
- Staff assisted with project planning at a January 2005 meeting in Concord, follow-up phone planning sessions, and final editing of the document.
- ANCA participated in the Northern Forest Center Steering Committee in continuing discussions about a Draft Regional Strategy for the Northern Forest.
- In March the ANCA Board of Directors received an update on regional discussions across the Northern Forest from staff at the Northern Forest Center.
- In April, ANCA worked with other organizations, including the Tug Hill Commission, and NY Audubon, amongst others, in presenting a public meeting to sixty attendees to discuss the various Northern Forest initiatives.
- In July ANCA staff attended a meeting hosted by Senator Snowe in Washington D.C. for the Northern Forest congressional delegation. The meeting was sponsored by the Northern Forest Center and addressed the Michaud legislation that had been sponsored by Congressmen McHugh and Boehlert in New York and the Senate proposal developed by Senator Snowe.
- In September ANCA staff participated in a meeting with NYSDEC and Tug Hill Commission staff and with directors of the Adirondack Association of Towns and Villages to discuss the various Northern Forest regional initiatives and ANCA's involvement to address economic development and quality of life needs for communities, residents and businesses.
