Executive Director, M.A. Education
Kate Fish assumed the Executive Directorship of ANCA in December 2009. She brings breadth and depth of experience in the international non-profit and private sectors as well as multi-generational family roots in the Adirondacks. In the two years before joining ANCA, she worked closely with the Wild Center coordinating two major conferences focused on energy efficiency and climate change. She co-founded and directed the Adirondack Climate and Energy Action Plan (ADKCAP), which is working to help the economy of the Adirondack region by finding the best ways to decrease waste in energy, decrease our use of carbon fuels, and invest the money we save in the long-term economic health of our communities.
Prior to returning to the region, she was Managing Director, Europe, for Business for Social Responsibility, a global non-profit that works with its global network of more than 250 member companies to develop sustainable business strategies and solutions. Before that, she was Vice President, Public Policy for a multi-national corporation, and developed and managed their stakeholder engagement programs as well as other company sustainability programs. Her experience also includes founding and running a non-profit focused on community education about energy efficiency and sustainable building practices.
In her new position at ANCA she has assumed Board participation with CBN Connect and NYS DEC Steering Committee work on the Adirondack Economy. Her responsibilities include fiscal and personnel management, public communications, fund development, and coordination on a wide range of public and private North Country initiatives, including development and implementation of ANCA’s strategic future directions.

Assistant Director, M.S. Natural Resource Conservation and Economics
As a Community Assistance Specialist since 2006, Hill has assisted with the Adirondack Park Regional Assessment Project (APRAP), the Common Ground Alliance, the Saranac Lake Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy, the Tupper Lake Main Street Revitalization Project, and other grass-roots based, community and economic development initiatives on a regional basis. He served as Interim Executive Director of ANCA for four months in 2009, providing seamless transition to the appointment of Kate Fish as Executive Director.

Wood Products Industry Specialist, B.S. Wood Product Engineering
Since 1993, Carl Golas has provided wood product development services throughout the North Country. He provides technical assistance to those working in the industry and seeks to maintain existing jobs and create new ones. In 2003 Carl Golas helped to successfully organize the private sawmill operators across the region allowing them to collectively voice their opposition to a proposed code change that would have forced many of the smaller operations to close their doors.

Byways Program Coordinator, B.S. Education
Since 2002, Sharon O’Brien has worked with communities along many of the Adirondack North Country Region’s Scenic Byways to create regional plans. The Corridor Management Plans outline how stakeholders along the route can address the future of their Byway route and develop tourism and economic benefits. Through grassroots planning sessions, representatives from towns, cities and villages identify local economic and community development issues and opportunities, set goals, and make recommendations on how to best enhance and promote their communities and local resources. During 2000-2002, O’Brien managed the $1M Ice Storm Recovery Program – a partnership between ANCA and NYSDEC that benefited communities impacted by the 1998 ice storm.

Agriculture-Grazing Technician, B.S. Natural Resources
Since 2002, Martha Pickard has worked in partnership with the NYS Grazing Lands Initiative. Pickard meets with farmers and conducts onsite visits to gather the data necessary to write grazing plans, organizes informational meetings and conferences, and conducts educational workshops on grazing techniques. Each year she works with hundreds of farmers. In 2003, Pickard prepared a Pasture Raised Meat Directory for a three-county region. In 2005, she successfully secured funding from Heifer Project International, which enables ANCA to support the Northern New York Farm Partnership – a network of producers.

Tim Holmes has assisted ANCA in developing the Adirondack North Country Scenic Byways Website, a strategic analysis of the wood products industry and in bicycle planning. He provides coordination and planning services in the development of the Saranac Lake-Lake Placid Pathway Project and designed ANCA’s on-line Bicycle Atlas featured at www.bikeadirondacks.org He also has assisted with providing wood product development services in the areas of business planning and Internet marketing at www.AdirondackWood.com

Consulting Crafts Program Coordinator, B.A. Anthropology
Since 1996, Nadia Korths has developed and managed ANCA’s craft programs including Buyer Days – the region’s only wholesale trade show; the annual Arts, Crafts & Foods along the Scenic Byways in the Adirondack North Country publication; and educational workshops for the region’s craft community of more than 1000 craftspeople and 700 retailers.
