Management/Administration Terry Martino has been Executive Director since 1991 and directs the personnel, financial and program management of the organization. As Director, she has managed a wide range of private and public funding sources and programs including the USDA Forest Service Ice Storm Recovery Program, the TEA-21 New York State Byways and Adirondack North Country Byways Marketing Programs, and the USDA Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative, amongst others, resulting in millions of dollars in investment in the North Country. She was a delegate in Saranac Lake’s successful selection as an All American City in 1998 during the National Civic League Competition in Mobile, Alabama. In 2004, she was appointed as a member to the Northern Forest Lands Council 10th Anniversary Forum. She has been a member of the NYSDOT Scenic Byways Advisory Board since 1992. Prior to her appointment as Executive Director, she worked for five years as ANCA's Program Director and organized ANCA's grant administration resulting in more than 300 contractual arrangements with ANCA for services and programs in the Adirondack North Country. Community Assistance Specialist, M.S. Natural Resource Conservation and Economics Since 2006, Hill’s primary responsibilities are to provide guidance and outreach to municipalities throughout the North Country. Project areas where Hill is involved will include the Adirondack Park Regional Assessment Project, a joint effort between ANCA and the Adirondack Association of Towns and Villages and the Towns of Chester and Arietta; the Saranac Lake Community Economic Development Strategy (CEDS), and various Blueway and community planning initiatives, amongst other outreach projects. Social Sciences Since 1996, Jim Ellis has provided community and enterprise development planning assistance through direct involvement with new ventures, business projects and marketing. An example of his work is the recent Memorandum of Agreement signed between ANCA and the Village of Tupper Lake for ANCA to provide services for community development and downtown revitalization. Carl S. Golas 315.376.7695 anca@northnet.org Wood Products Industry Specialist, B.S. Wood Product Engineering Since 1993, Carl Golas has provided wood product development services throughout the North Country. He provides technical assistance to those working in the industry and seeks to maintain existing jobs and create new ones. In 2003 Carl Golas helped to organize the private sawmill operators across the region allowing them to collectively voice their opposition to a proposed code change that would have forced many of the smaller operations to close their doors. The effort was successful. Sharon E. O'Brien 518.891.6200 anca-obrien@northnet.org Byways Program Coordinator, B.S. Education Since 2002, Sharon O'Brien has worked with communities along many of the Adirondack North Country Region's Scenic Byways to create regional plans. The Corridor Management Plans outline how stakeholders along the route can address the future of their Byway route and develop tourism and economic benefits. Through grassroots planning sessions, representatives from towns, cities and villages identify local economic and community development issues and opportunities, set goals, and make recommendations on how to best enhance and promote their communities and local resources. During 2000-2002, O’Brien managed the $1M Ice Storm Recovery Program – a partnership between ANCA and NYSDEC that benefited communities impacted by the 1998 ice storm. Martha V. Pickard 518.891.6200 anca-pickard@northnet.org Agriculture-Grazing Technician, B.S. Natural Resources Since 2002, Martha Pickard has worked in partnership with the NYS Grazing Lands Initiative. Pickard meets with farmers and conducts onsite visits to gather the data necessary to write grazing plans, organizes informational meetings and conferences, and conducts educational workshops on grazing techniques. Each year she works with hundreds of farmers. In 2003, Pickard prepared a Pasture Raised Meat Directory for a three-county region. The publication is in the process of being expanded. In 2005, she successfully secured funding from Heifer Project International, which enables ANCA to support the Northern New York Farm Partnership – a network of producers. Judith A. Holmes 518.891.6525 holmes@adirondackresearch.com Consulting Bicycle/Pedestrian Project Coordinator, B.S., M.A. Sociology Tim Holmes has assisted ANCA in a strategic analysis of the wood products industry and in bicycle planning. He provides coordination and planning services in the development of the Saranac Lake-Lake Placid Pathway Project and designed ANCA’s on-line Bicycle Atlas featured at www.bikeadirondacks.org He also has assisted with providing wood product development services in the areas of business planning and Internet marketing at www.AdirondackWood.com Nadia Korths 518.891.1632 korths@northnet.org
Consulting Crafts Program Coordinator, B.A. Anthropology Since 1996, Nadia Korths has developed and managed ANCA's craft programs including Buyer Days – the region’s only wholesale trade show; the annual Arts, Crafts & Foods along the Scenic Byways in the Adirondack North Country publication; and educational workshops for the region's craft community of more than 1000 craftspeople and 700 retailers.
